France to help Vietnam with energy saving projects
The French Agency for Development (AFD) wishes to help Vietnam save energy based on experiences it has learnt from projects in Indonesia, according to a meeting with the head of AFD projects, Christian de Gromard.
A delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade visited France from August 19-21 and worked with AFD and Areva, a leading energy conglomerate based in France, to learn French experience in energy saving.
During the meeting with the AFD, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Huu Hao introduced Vietnam’s newly approved law on energy saving and expressed his wish that the AFD will assist Vietnam in drafting legal documents and in enforcing this law effectively.
At another meeting, Othman Salhi, Vice President Areva for the Asian Region, spoke about his group’s experience in designing, building, and operating nuclear power reactors and its supplies of nuclear fuel rods, and its ability to process and preserve nuclear waste. He said the Avera leadership will always cooperate with Vietnam in the field of nuclear power.
For his part, Deputy Minister Do Huu Hao said Vietnam is willing to cooperate with the countries that possess safe nuclear technology. He highly valued Avera’s experience in this field and promised that Avera will have many more opportunities to work with Vietnamese partners as Vietnam continues to build nuclear power plants from now until 2035.
