Meet promotes clean technology

A machine that turns sewage into fuel, a company that makes software to assess climate change, and a power generator built into a shipping container are among the products brought by six New Zealand clean-technology makers to a two-day workshop that began in HCM City on Tuesday.

Solutions for energy storage, green transportation, water and waste treatment, smart materials, and sustainable agriculture are also being considered at the meeting held by the New Zealand Trade and Enterprises (NZTE) and the city's Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE).

"New Zealand is famous for renewable energy. That is what Viet Nam needs to cope with the increasing pollution and climate change," Nguyen Van Phuoc, Deputy Director of the DNRE, said.

The event is being attended by environmental and construction company executives, architects, land developers and investors. Business-to-business meetings are being organised to find out how New Zealand technologies can help Viet Nam.

"New Zealand is seeking to assist Viet Nam with developing renewable energy, maintaining clean water supply, cleaning polluted waterways, and improving power generation to keep up with rapid industrial development," Graham Sims, NZTE Trade Commissioner to Viet Nam, said.

New Zealand companies are especially focused on water – and soil-treatment technologies that provide safe drinking water and produce energy from the solids extracted from purification process.

A similar workshop will be organised in central city of Da Nang on July 1-2.
