Audit systems to be strengthened

National Assembly chairman Nguyen Phu Trong urged the Spanish Court of Audit (SCA) to enhance the exchange of professional experiences with the State Audit of Viet Nam (SAV).

Speaking with SCA President Manuel Nunez-Perez in the capital city yesterday, Trong said SAV lacked experiences and skills while the SCA had a proven track record in the field.

He said the signing of co-operative agreements between the two offices was a concrete step in implementing high-level agreements reached during President Nguyen Minh Triet's recent visit to Spain.

Trong said effective implementation of the agreement would make practical contributions to the development of ties between the two countries in the spirit of a ‘strategic partnership towards the future'.

During talks, Trong also acknowledged developments in the multi-faceted relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture and education.

He suggested the two countries continue speeding up exchange and co-operation between the two legislative agencies in particular and the two countries in general.

In reply, Manuel Nunez-Perez said Spain was committed to sharing experiences in auditing with Viet Nam. He also said he wished the two countries would co-operate more closely on a framework for developing international and regional auditing organisations.

Spanish experiences

Viet Nam wants to gain more experience in the field of auditing by co-operating with Spain, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan told Manuel Nunez-Perez at a meeting in Ha Noi yesterday.

The Vice President said Viet Nam's State auditing system was still young, having been established only 16 years ago. She said it was essential for the country to develop a strong auditing system to meet the needs of the international economic integration process.

Doan also said she was pleased to see friendship co-operation and relations between the two countries continue to develop, especially after the leaders agreed to boost relations to a ‘Future oriented strategic partnership relationship'.

She thanked the Spanish Government for its support of Viet Nam to strengthen comprehensive relations with the European Union and international finance organisations.

President of the Spanish Court of Audit Manuel Nunez-Perez, meanwhile, said he was impressed by the achievements already made by the State Audit of Viet Nam.

He said he was glad to see their two auditing offices co-operating in a number of specialities and in training auditors.

On the same day, the State Audit of Viet Nam and the Spanish Court of Audit signed an agreement to further strengthen bilateral co-operation relations based on the spirit of independence, equality and mutual interest.

Accordingly, the two sides agreed to exchange information, documents, knowledge and experience in auditing public sector financial and economic activities, evaluating financial accountability and training, among other things.
