Exports to US rising steadily
In the first four months this year, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and the US rose to US$5.267 billion, a 17.1 percent year-on-year increase, following recent figures released by the US Department of Commerce.
Vietnam’s exports to the US hit US$4.169 billion, up 13.5 percent compared to 2009 and imports from the country reached US$1.097 billion, up 33.4 percent.

Among the goods exported, garments achieved a turnover of US$1.77 billion, up 10.83 percent against the same period last year, and accounted for 6.49 percent of all the US’s imported garments. The rate of growth is due to an increase of 6.11 percent in the US consumer demand compared to last year.
The export of wooden products and furniture came second with a turnover of US$522 million, up 25.4 percent compared to 2009. It was followed by footwear valued at US$468.6 million (Up 1.96 percent), agricultural products at US$224 million (Up 15.7 percent) and seafood products at US$190.5 million (Up 10.3 percent).
Vietnam continues to rank 6th among the key ten countries that export seafood products to the US. Of them, tra and basa fish rose sharply in April, reaching 3.342 tonnes with an export turnover of US$44.3 million, a 18.7 percent year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s imports from the US in the first four months rose by US$1.097 billion, up 33.4 percent against last year, including raw materials for the food industry, cattle feed, machinery, vehicles, cotton, cloth and wooden products.
