MGM considers setting up theme parks in Viet Nam
The potential that Viet Nam has to become a regional entertainment hub is highlighted by an agreement reached to investigate the feasibility of establishing MGM-branded theme parks and attractions in the country.
The EMHI Land Corporation (EL) announced yesterday that the agreement reached with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios' Location Based Entertainment (LBE) division would allow it to identify locations and entities in Viet Nam for proposed LBE projects.
"The parties are seeking potential projects that will be strategically situated in north, central and south Viet Nam in order to serve both 86 million Vietnamese population and further 550 million in the greater ASEAN (Region)," an EL press release said.
It quoted John Lindsay, senior vice president of MGM Studios, as saying "we look forward to establishing a quality entertainment foundation in Viet Nam."
EL chairman Allen Wu said the agreement strategically situates the company to "play a significant role in ASEAN.
"We believe having globally recognised branded theme parks and attractions in Viet Nam will provide an unprecedented quality in entertainment to the population in Viet Nam and the rest of Asean."
EHMI Corporation is a US-based holding company with main operations in Viet Nam, covering real estate, hospitality, mining and infrastructure.
The corporation, via its operating subsidiaries, intends to develop multiple 300-500ha townships anchored with global branded theme parks throughout Viet Nam.
