Industry and Trade delegation in Malaysia
A delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has attended a two-day meeting of ASEAN economic ministers in Putrajaya, Malaysia, chaired by MoIT Minister Vu Huy Hoang.
Meeting later with the Vietnamese embassy in Malaysia, the minister briefly presented a recap of the ministerial conference, which reviewed intra-ASEAN economic cooperation toward the establishment of an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
Mr. Hoang said ASEAN’s commitments to inter-regional trade liberalization are a high priority. In 2010, the organization will focus on facilitating ASEAN trade and reducing trade barriers.
According to him, 2010 will see the implementation of some important agreements, such as the ASEAN Trade In Goods Agreement (ATIGA), the ASEAN Comprehensive International Agreement (ACIA), and other pledges under the ASEAN Framework on Services.
Regarding relations between Malaysia and Vietnam, Minister Hoang said that Vietnam has always been considered an important trade partner for Malaysia. The country has many commodities to ship to Malaysia, while Malaysia provides Vietnam with many essential goods. All Malaysian-invested projects in Vietnam have been very successful. Malaysia currently has about US$4.5 billion invested in two thermal power plants in Hai Duong province and the Mekong Delta.
