HCM City announces water price hikes to begin today

The HCM City People's Committee has increased water prices by VND1,100-2,200 per cubic metre with effect from March 1.

The tariffs are based on the quantity used per capita: a household using less than 4cu.m a month per person will be charged VND4,000 for each cubic metre, VND1,300 up from the current rate.

It will be VND7,500 for 4 to 6cu.m. and VND10,000 for over 6cu.m, an increase of VND2,100 and VND2,000, respectively.

A cubic metre will cost VND6,700 for factories, VND7,100 for administrative agencies, and VND12,000 for the service sector.

The committee has also announced a road map for further increases in the next three years, when water tariffs will go up by VND400-1,700.

In districts of Thu Duc, 6, 8, and 11, mains water remains dirty while in some areas in Districts 7, Nha Be and Can Gio, where the pipes do not reach, water dealers gouge people.

They carry water in tanks and sell it at VND80,000 to 120,000 per cubic metre.
