Tet slackers leave businesses short of workers
Businesses in Danang City are complaining they are having difficulties finding workers as people are continuing their Tet breaks rather than looking for work.
A notice board advertising job vacancies has been hanging over the entrance door to Thuan Phuoc Company for the last month, but it is yet to catch the eye of workers.
The company urgently needs to recruit 600 blue collar workers, 30 trained workers, and a number of staff with degrees.
The company’s personnel staff event journeyed as far as Dai Loc and Duy Xuyen Districts in Quang Nam Province and cooperated with local job centres to seek employees. However, the results are modest with just 50-60 posts filled so far.
Meanwhile, the company says it is offering very attractive working conditions. Probation workers, for example, can get 1.5 million dong instead of 1.2 million dong as previously applied. Workers can also receive support with accommodation and get free meals during-shift.
Mabuchi Motor in Hoa Khanh Industrial Zone, specializing in making electronic parts for export, is also urgently seeking 500 blue collar workers.
“We have 100 applications for jobs so far, that’s just one third of what we need,” said Nguyen Thi Viet Nhi, a personnel officer.
According to the Da Nang Department for Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Jsaka Company in Hoa Cam Industrial Zone is seeking 300-1,000 blue collar workers.
Also according to the department, at least five enterprises, especially foreign invested enterprises specializing in import-export, garment, electronic parts, have reported that they production has been stagnant due to labor shortages.
According to the Quang Nam province’s Job Centre, the first job transaction session of the new Lunar New Year took place on February 23. Representatives of 30 enterprises were present there to recruit 5,000 workers.
Even though many enterprises are offering attractive salaries of 2-4 million dong a month, free accommodation and other perks, they still cannot recruit enough workers.
Meanwhile, in many workshops, production lines still cannot run at full swing, because many workers are slow in returning after Tet.
The Huu Nghi Production and Trade Company in An Don Industrial Zone restarted its production on February 19, or the sixth day of the new Lunar New Year. However, to date, 120 workers have not returned to work, half of them have not reported the reasons for their absence.
Dam Thi Thanh Xuan, chairwoman of the Trade Union of the Da Nang Industrial Zone and Export Processing Zone, said that there has been no exact information about the number of workers returning to work after Tet. A lot of workers still prefer staying at home to make the most of Tet.
