HCM City construction work resumes
Work is gradually resuming after the Lunar New Year at major construction sites and offices in HCM City.
The city's Department of Transport has begun work at many sites, including the Rach Chiec Bridge and two sections of the Ring Road 2, one linking Rach Chiec with the Ha Noi Highway and the other linking An Lac roundabout with Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard.
Expansion of the Ha Noi Highway and the inter-provincial 25B Highway which suffers the worst congestion in the city will begin.
Work will also begin on the second phase of the Binh Trieu 2 Bridge, the Sai Gon 2 Bridge between Districts 1 and 2, and an elevated highway linking Districts Tan Binh, Go Vap, and 11 with the downtown area to ease traffic on the Ha Noi Highway.
The city's first tram route will be built along the East-West Highway.
Meanwhile, four hundred workers are working at the Thu Thiem immersed tunnel construction site, one of the most important projects expected to open this year.
According to Vuong Hoang Thanh, Vice Director of the East-West Highway project's management board, investor of the tunnel, workers hurry in shifts to ensure the project's schedule.
They were working hard to complete necessary works like installing the light system, ventilation system and navigation tower, he said.
Other places
Sai Gon Newport Company, which operates Cat Lai Port, said between February 13 and 18, the port received 32 container ships which brought 26,270 twenty-foot equivalent units from several countries.
It has since loaded 27 of the ships and is loading the remaining five, mostly with aquatic and farm produce, garments, and shoes for the US and European and Asian countries.
In Da Phuoc and Phuoc Hiep waste treatment plants, work has almost returned to normal.
Nguyen Van Phuoc, Deputy Director of the city Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said sanitation companies resumed operation on Tuesday.
In the days leading up to Tet on Sunday the volume of waste generated in the city shot up to 12,200 tonnes a day and more sanitation workers had to be deployed, he said. The normal quantity is around 6,000 tonnes.
