Aquiculture, forestry and agriculture exports rise by 25 percent
Aquiculture, forestry and agriculture exports in February totalled over US$1.4 billion, increasing Vietnam’s year-to-date turnover to US$2.8 billion, up 25 percent against the same period last year.
Agriculture exports gained nearly US$1.5 billion, rising by 11 percent compared to the same period last year, while aquiculture and forestry exports reaped US$628 million and US$617 million, showing increases of 41 percent and 60 percent, respectively.
Rubber, pepper and tea continue to be major export items. Rice and coffee exports, however, decreased in both turnover and volume. In the past two months, Vietnam has exported 764,000 tonnes of rice, down 27 percent, earning US$411 million, down 12.5 percent.
Hot, dry weather is forecast for Tay Nguyen province this year, so, Vietnam’s coffee output can be expected to fall off sharply.
Nonetheless, Vietnam is projected to earn US$16 billion in aquiculture, forestry and agriculture exports this year, beating last year’s US$15.4 billion.
