Second bauxite project to be launched in the central highlands
The Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) will inaugurate an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Nhan Co aluminum factory in Dak Nong province on February 28.
This contract, worth US$655 million, covers the factory’s design, materials procurement and construction. According to a Vinacomin representative, work will begin after Vinacomin has assured related ministries and departments that it can ensure economic efficiency, environmental protection and minimal impact on the regional culture. This aluminum project follows an earlier one in Lam Dong.
The project will proceed in two phases. The first one (2007-2012) will have a designed capacity of 650,000 tonnes of aluminum per year, while the next phase will double the first phase’s capacity.
The factory is expected to be completed by 2012, generate VND3, 756 billion and provide more than 13,000 jobs for local workers.
A 5.5 km conveyor will transport bauxite from the Nhan Co bauxite mine to the a factory for the production of aluminum.
