100 technical errors remain unfixed at Dung Quat oil refinery
The Dung Quat oil refinery was not handed over on February 25 as schedulde because the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) has asked the contractor – Technip – to solve the 100 existing technical errors.
Nguyen Hoai Giang, General Director of the Binh Son Oil Refining and Petrochemistry Co Ltd, said that the Dung Quat oil refinery was not transferred on February 25 because 100 technical errors are not fixed yet.
He said the PetroVietnam, the investor, is working with contractor Technip to seek final solutions for these errors before the contractor hands over the refinery. Technip will continue dealing with these errors while the refinery continues to operate at full capacity.
At a meeting in December 2009, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai emphasized that it was too late to deal with technical errors at the Dung Quat oil refinery and he asked Technip to hand over the work to the Binh Son Oil Refining and Petrochemistry Co Ltd to operate by February 25. However, his instructions have not been implemented.
After one year in operation, this refinery processed around 2.8 million tones of crude oil and sold to the market over 2 million tones of petrol.
