EVN relies more on VN private producers
Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) has bought nearly 22.4 billion kWh of electricity from private producers so far this year besides 2.3 billion kWh from China to meet the burgeoning demand of power.
Together with its own generation of 52.2 billion KWh, it has supplied 77 billion KWh, an increase of 13.23 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The country, especially the north, faced a power shortage last month following the normal year-end spike in demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
This meant the EVN had to resort to buying electricity, it added.
Hydro powers ahead
Hydroelectric plants in the north, like Hoa Binh, Thac Ba and Tuyen Quang, have done well to conserve water for power generation in the 2010 dry season and irrigation for the winter-spring crop, EVN said.
In the central region, power plants are currently running at full capacity due to the abundance of water following the recent floods, the group said.
Plants in the south with adequate water storage are running at or near peak capacity to meet the average daily electricity demand of 248.6 million KWh, 24.18 percent higher than in the same period last year.
At its peak, supply is at 270.6 million kWh, a 27.4 percent rise. EVN says it will provide enough power to meet demand.
