SBV and BOL sign MOU on technical assistance and cooperation
Governor Nguyen Van Giau of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) joined Governor Phouphet Khamphounvong of the Bank of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (BOL) in signing a memorandum of understanding on technical assistance and cooperation in Hanoi on December 4. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of SBV and BOL departments and senior managers of several commercial banks of the two countries.
Addressing the signing ceremony, the SBV Governor affirmed that the SBV would continue to send its experienced experts in the financial and banking field to Laos in coordination with BOL to conduct training programs. He said that the SBV will encourage Vietnamese commercial banks to open representative offices in Laos in order to promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and that SBV and BOL will also encourage enterprises to make payment through banks and strictly monitor settlements in border trade operations.
Vietnam and Laos officially established diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962. Since then the economic and trade relations between the two countries have been constantly consolidated and developed. In addition to the bilateral cooperation, the two sides have promoted cooperation under the ASEAN, regional and international framework.
