Two Jetstar Pacific engineers petition Prime Minister
Two engineers of budget air carrier Jetstar Pacific Airlines, Digger King and Bernard John, have petitioned the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, expressing their concerns relating to flight safety problems.
In the petition to the Prime Minister, the two engineers of Jetstar Pacific wrote that the airline has terminated labour contracts with them for reasons they believe relate to their efforts to “maintain a high level of safety and the reporting of safety related deficiencies within the airline”.
The two engineers cite their experience in the aircraft maintenance industry. Digger King has 48 year and Bernard 21 year experience with many different aviation companies around the world.
The engineers say they have responsibility to report the problems at Jetstar Pacific to the Vietnamese Prime Minister.
“We hope you can understand what we are trying to do is what we believe to be in the best interests of the Vietnamese people,” the letter reads.
The two engineers hope that the Prime Minister will support the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) to carry out a thorough investigation into these problems.
“Our intent is not to harm Jetstar Pacific Airlines’ reputation but to ensure accountable managers of the airline follow correct safety procedures and regulations,” they wrote.
The engineers say that as Vietnam develops its aviation industry, it needs to focus on safety and reliability of aircrafts and airlines must maintain a duty of care for passengers flying with them.
Prior to that, the two engineers also petitioned the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, denouncing Jetstar Pacific for ignoring safely regulations.
After receiving the petition, CAAV immediately set up an inspection team to inspect the implementation of safety regulations at Jetstar Pacific.
The inspection team began inspection work at the airline on November 5 and the inspection conclusion is expected to be released on November 15.
