Vietnam, Chile negotiate on FTA
The fourth round of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) started in the capital city of Santiago on September 28 with the aim of addressing the matters mentioned in the previous round.
Rodrigo Contreras, head of the Chilean delegation, said the FTA would provide Chilean products with opportunities to penetrate the Vietnamese market.
Chilean newspapers recently ran articles highlighting the growth of trade between the two countries.
Statistic figures released by the Chilean export promotion office, ProChile, show that bilateral trade reached US$177,379 million last year, up nine percent from 2007 and US$147 million in the first seven months of 2009, 39.3 percent higher than a year earlier.
Vietnam is a potential market that has attracted a large number of foreign investors.
