Landline subscriptions exceed 110 million
Vietnam had 110.3 million landline subscriptions as of August, a 70 percent year-on-year increase, the communications ministry told a conference in Hanoi on Wednesday.
Government statistics place Vietnam’s population at 86 million people.
Over 96 million mobile phone service subscriptions were recorded in Vietnam through last month, while 21.5 million people were Internet users, the Ministry of Information and Communications said.
Vietnamese telecommunications is now one of the most rapidly developing markets in the world, Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang told the Vietnam Telecom Growth Conference 2009.
It still has much potential for growth, he said, noting that Vietnam would improve related legal frameworks and implement attractive policies to lure investment from multinational companies alongside local ones.
The two-day conference, chaired by the ministry, is being held by its National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy in cooperation with the global business research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.
