Vietnam attends WEF’s Dalian meeting

A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai is attending a meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) that opened in northern Dalian city, China, on Sept. 10.

The three-day meeting, also known as the 2009 Annual Meeting of New Champions under the World Economic Forum, attracted nearly 1,400 business leaders and policy makers from 86 countries and territories.

This year’s WEF selected Vietnam as one of the “outstanding nations” in the economic recovery process, and asked the Southeast Asian country to share its experiences in building up the country’s competiveness as well as the rapid development of the Vietnamese business community.

According to the WEF, key officials from the WEF’s member groups are continuing to pay special attention to Vietnam ’s potential for development.

The Vietnamese delegation was received by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the end of the opening session.

The Chinese leader stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the current complex international situation, saying that it would be beneficial for both countries.

They should also take opportunity to promote bilateral ties as they enter into the 2010 “Sino-Vietnamese Friendship Year,” he noted.

Deputy PM Hai said that Vietnam will increase high-level exchanges and expand cooperation, as well as enhance discussions on international issues with China .

The three-day meeting or the third Summer Davos forum with the theme “Reviving Economic Growth” is scheduled to discuss issues relating to innovation, science and technology, sustainable production and consumption, and finance and investment.

The first Summer Davos forum was held in Dalian in September 2007, and titled "Shifting the Balance of Power".

The second Summer Davos forum held in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin in September last year was called "The Next Wave of Growth".
