Saigon Shipbuilding launches 11,000-DWT freighter
Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Corporation launched an 11,000-DWT cargo vessel, the largest yet built in the south, at its Ho Chi Minh City shipyard on Monday.
Taking more than ten months to build for Taiwan’s Franbo Lines, the SSIC-11 measures 114.3 meters long and 18.8 meters abeam, and has a maximum speed of 13.8 knots.
On the same day, the shipyard began building another freighter of the same capacity, this one for Japan’s Kannematsu Corporation.
Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Corp. is a member of the state-owned Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, or Vinashin for short.
The largest ship ever built in Vietnam is the 56,000-DWT cargo vessel E.R. Bergamo Monrovia, which was launched in April by Hyundai VinaShin in Khanh Hoa Province.
