DHL Vietnam launches new shipping service for smaller quantities
Leading logistics company DHL has launched a guaranteed weekly direct Less than Container Load (LCL) services linking Ho Chi Minh City with Hamburg (Germany), Genoa (Italy) and Los Angeles (the US).
LCL services refer to smaller amounts of ocean freight cargo that are insufficient to fill a Full Container Load (FCL).
The service is widely used by customers across many industries as it offers the flexibility of shipping smaller quantities in a timely manner.
With the new offering, DHL now serves 54 destinations in the US with its inland network via Los Angeles and provides direct services to 26 European destinations through Genoa and Hamburg, the company said in a statement released Tuesday.
According to the EC statistical office, the two European destinations facilitate trade with Vietnam's largest export region, with the continent importing about US$12.2 billion worth of goods from Vietnam last year.
The US was Vietnam's second-largest trading partner receiving nearly $11.86 billion worth of goods in 2008, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The first half of 2009 saw garment and footwear accounting for over $10 billion worth of exports from Vietnam, contributing over a third of the nation’s total exports totaling about $27.6 billion.
Michel Khaou, Managing Director, DHL Global Forwarding Vietnam, the new direct weekly LCL services will enable shipments to arrive up to a week earlier through DHL's in-house carrier, Danmar Lines.
The launch of direct services from Vietnam to the US and Western Europe marks the introduction of 22 new direct LCL routes launched by DHL this year, including:
Chennai (India) to Felixstowe (UK); Shenzhen (China) to Hamburg (Germany);
Tokyo (Japan) to Chicago (the US);and Port Kelang (Malaysia) to Los Angeles (the US).
