CMC TI given telecom licence
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has officially licensed CMC Telecom Infrastructure (CMC TI), a subsidiary of Viet Nam-based CMC Group, to build a telecom service network.
CMC TI is the 11th company licensed to set up a telecom network and provide intra-region, inter-provincial, and international telecom services in Viet Nam.
The licence was granted based on approval from the Prime Minister for CMC TI to build a network and provide fixed telecom and internet services.
Until now the company had been renting network facilities from Viettel, EVN Telecom and Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).
With this licence CMC TI has approval to provide Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and fixed phone services, and to develop domestic and international transmission lines, similar to VNPT and Viettel.
A representative of CMC TI said that the company planned to provide the services from the first quarter of 2010.
The company was formed in September 2008 by the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), which holds 51 per cent of stake in the company, and CMC Telecom.
