Work starts on first pipe-coating factory
The PetroVietnam Gas Investment and Construction Joint-Stock Company kicked off last Saturday the construction of a pipe-coating factory in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, the first of its kind in the country.
The contractor on the project is the Netherlands company Bauhuis International B.V.
With a total investment of VND520 billion (US$28.5 million), the factory will be developed on seven ha of land in the Phu My 1 Industrial Park and equipped with the latest anti-corrosion technology.
This factory, which should begin a trial operation next May, will be able to turn out 240km of coated pipes each year for use in the gas industry.
The amount will meet most domestic demand, general director Nguyen Mau Dung has said, adding that Viet Nam currently imports all of its coated pipes.
The factory will be able to coat pipes of 6-48 inches with fusion-bonded epoxy, three-layer PE/PP plastics and concrete.
Also last Saturday, the PVID signed an agreement with the Gas Project Management Consultancy Company on providing the pipe coating service to gas pipelines running to Hai Su Trang (White Sea Lion) and Te Giac Trang (White Rhino) oil wells, 80km off the shore of Binh Thuan Province.
The company concluded another agreement on a credit arrangement with PetroVietnam Finance Corp to ensure capital for the project.
