Overseas investment reaches $1.6 billion

Vietnamese businesses invested nearly US$1.6 billion overseas in the first seven months of this year, an official from the Ministry of Planning and Investment said Thursday.

The amount came from 41 projects, 20 of which increased their investment capital to $200 million in total, said the ministry’s Foreign Investment Agency chief Phan Huu Thang.

According to the agency, overseas investment from Vietnam has to date reached $6.6 billion for 410 projects. The investment arrives mainly in Laos (161 projects, $2.6 billion), Russia (19 projects, $1.2 billion), Cambodia and Malaysia.
