Local importers warned against overseas fraud
The Vietnamese embassy’s Commercial Section in Indonesia on Thursday warned Vietnamese businesses not to pay an advance when importing goods from Indonesian companies to avoid being swindled.
Several Vietnamese companies importing paper from Indonesia have been cheated recently by way of prepaying for goods before delivery, said Dao Tran Nhan, deputy chief of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Asia Market Department.
According to Nhan, the Indonesian companies dissolved after receiving the payments without shipping the goods.
The companies reportedly gained importers’ trust by initially delivering goods on time, but then swindled their customers when it came to large contracts.
