Project contracts worth $4bil signed
Contracts for ten projects with a total investment capital of nearly US$4 billion were signed at the Conference on Investment Promotion in Nam Dinh city on August 5.
Five of the projects are in the northern province of Nam Dinh and the remainder, in neighbouring Thai Binh province.
The conference was attended by high-ranking Government officials and more than 300 domestic and foreign enterprises.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised efforts by both provinces to attract investment.
Hai said that the investment projects would contribute to the socio-economic development of the two provinces as well as the southern region of the Hong (Red) River Delta and the country as a whole.
However, Hai also said a good competitive edge was still limited for the two provinces and the country in general.
The two provinces should boost research and enforce socio-economic development plans suitable for the new context and push for administrative reform, Hai said. Among the projects signed at the conference are the construction of an electricity centre in Hai Hau district of Nam Dinh province and coal exploration and mining in Thai Binh province with investment capital of $1.3 billion and $2 billion, respectively.
