Vietnam to export at least 5.5 million tonnes of rice
Vietnam expects to export at least 5.5 million tonnes of rice this year, higher than the government’s target of 5 million tonnes, said Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association Huynh Minh Hue.
The country signed contracts to export more than 5 million tonnes of rice for this year, Chairman Hue said at the Trade and Industry Ministry’s online-meeting on July 8.
According to the Association’s report, Vietnam ’s rice exports in the first six months of this year reached a record high 3.65 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 60%.
The Association and businesses have quickly stockpiled summer-autumn rice for export in the rest of the year and early next year, he said, adding that the country is likely to export about 2 million tonnes of rice in the remaining months of 2009.
