Cars of five seats and less maintain dominance in June
Passenger cars of five seats and under continued leading the market in sales in June 2009, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).
VAMA’s report showed the continued upturn in car sales in June 2009 with 9,699 cars sold in the month, an increase of 1,000 cars over May.
Especially, five-seaters continued attracting clients with very satisfactory sales.
Things have been looking better every month for this line of cars since the 5% cut in the luxury tax at the beginning of April.
2,651 cars were sold last month, an increase of 155 cars over the previous month.
A lot of car models have been in short supply. Toyota Vietnam, for example, the automobile manufacturer which has the biggest sales in the market, now has 5,200 customers waiting for deliveries. Toyota’s hottest passenger models now are Innova and Fortuner. Vios and Altis are also selling well.
In June, 495 Corolla Altis and 404 Vios were sold. Meanwhile, the manufacturer only expected to sell 150 cars of each kind per month.
The sales of GM Daewoo show the same trend. While sales of the two MPV models Chevrolet Captiva and Vivant have been going slowly, passenger models of the company have risen strongly. In June, 413 Sparks were sold, an increase of 50 percent over the sales of the previous month.
The Daewoo Lacetti has also seen a strong rise in sales. In March 2009, when people were awaiting the luxury tax decrease on five-seaters, only 112 Lacettis were sold. However, the luxury tax decrease helped increase the sales to 134 in April and then to 272 cars in May. The sale of the model increased further to 286 cars in June.
