PetroVietnam to expand oil production, operations abroad
Vietnam National Oil & Gas Group plans to put into operations four new oilfields, including two in Malaysia, by the end of this year, the state oil monopoly said.
The company, known as PetroVietnam, will also begin operating two joint-ventures with Russian and Venezuelan partners to explore and produce oil, according to a press briefing held in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.
PetroVietnam said Friday its total revenue rose 13 percent in the first half to reach VND120.35 trillion (US$6.7 billion), accounting for 57 percent of the full-year target.
The state oil monopoly, however, did not release the target or their pretax profit.
Its total export turnover grew by 15 percent to $3.5 billion, accounting for 80 percent of 2009’s target, newly appointed General Director Phung Dinh Thuc said.
PetroVietnam exported nearly 8.2 million tons of crude oil and condensate in the first half, Thuc said. It also supplied about 460,000 tons of crude oil to the recently commissioned Dung Quat Refinery in central Vietnam.
Thuc said PetroVietnam plans to export more than 12 million tons of crude oil and condensate and to supply 3.5 million tons of crude oil to Dung Quat Refinery by this year-end.
