Oil refinery produces first LP Gas
Dung Quat Oil Refinery’s first two batches of liquefied petroleum gas, commonly used throughout the world as cooking fuel, were shipped Saturday.
Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company shipped the two 3,200-cubic-meter batches of what is known as LPG from Vietnam’s first oil refinery in the central province of Quang Ngai to PetroVietam Gas Company for sale on the domestic market.
Binh Son plans to ship 3,600 more cubic meters of LPG to PetroVietnam today.
The Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company will begin selling the first 5,000-7,000 cubic meters of A92 gasoline from the refinery on Thursday and Friday, and will export propylene from the refinery to Japan.
Binh Son, a PetroVietnam unit in charge of managing the refinery, said the Dung Quat Plant would begin running at full capacity on August 25.
This year, the refinery expects an output of 2.6 million tons. Its main products include LPG, unleaded gasoline, kerosene/jet fuel, feedstock for propylene plants, diesel (industrial and auto) and other petrochemicals like naphtha.
The US$2.5 billion refinery with an annual capacity of 6.5 million tons, will meet 30 percent of domestic demand, contributing to the nation’s energy security by gradually reducing dependence on gasoline and oil imports.
