National oil group to tap four new oil fields

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) will tap four new oil fields in the second half of the year, PVN Deputy General Director Le Minh Hong told the press on July 3.

They include two oil fields in Vietnam – Nam Rong-Doi Moi and Peal – and two in Malaysia – D30 and Dana.

Apart from providing domestic households with 7.5 billion cu.m of gas this year, the PVN plans to raise its power output in 2009 to 10 billion kWh and negotiate with Electricity of Vietnam on the sale of electricity. The PVN is operating Ca Mau Electricity Plants No. 1 and 2 and Nhon Trach Power Plant.

The group is closely monitoring the test-run of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, which is scheduled to be inaugurated in October.

In the first half of the year, the PVN fulfilled most of its targets, including achieving a turnover of VND120 trillion (13 percent above plan) and US$3.5 billion from oil exports.
