Crown Holdings buys packaging plant in Vietnam
U.S. packaging manufacturer Crown Holdings Inc. has purchased a soda can factory in southern Dong Nai Province, its third plant in Vietnam, the company announced Monday.
The plant originally belonged to Malaysian food and beverage producer Interfood Shareholding Company, maker of the “Wonderfarm” brand of biscuits, snacks and juices.
Crown Holdings’ third facility in Vietnam will be managed by its Asia-Pacific division, Crown Asia Pacific Holdings Ltd., Vietnam News Agency reported.
In its first phase, the factory is expected to produce 600 million 330 milliliter aluminum drink cans every year. The first products from the plant will be sent to the company’s clients by the fourth quarter of this year.
Crown Asia Pacific Holdings Chairman Jozef Salaerts said the company considered Vietnam a high-growth market.
“The expansion shows our commitment to meeting the increasing demand of customers in the region and the world,” Salaerts said.
Crown Holdings has metal packaging operations in 41 countries and employs more than 21,000 people.
