Home appliance centres launching big sales

A series of home appliance supermarkets have launched big sales campaigns to lure more customers. Retailers say this is just the beginning of a big sales wave which could last until September.

Saigon-Nguyen Kim has launched a promotion programme under which buyers of Panasonic products will enjoy the price discounts of 10-20 percent. The retailer said that the price discounts will also be applied in the coming weeks to products of many other brand names.

Thien Hoa Home Appliance Centre is now trying to draw customer attention to Fujiyama brand name washing machines which are selling at between 1.99 million and 6.95 million dong. Some other products available at the centre, including ovens, are now enjoying 45-50 percent price decreases.

Ideas has also slashed sale prices of many products by 5-20 percent. A 32-inch Panasonic LCD TV is now selling at 7.29 million dong, down by 700,000 dong, while an LG 26-inch LCD TV at 4.999 million dong, down by 1.5 million dong.

The De Nhat Phan Khanh has announced the price reductions of 25-30 percent on all electric consumer products and the price reduction of 15 percent on some kinds of LCD TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines.

Cho Lon Home Appliance Supermarket has stirred the public by offering 40 LG 32-inch LCD TVs at the surprisingly low price of 3.999 million dong -- a 4 million dong decrease.

The sharp price reductions are an attempt to boost slow sales. The retailers have reported that demand has decreased by 30 percent and they said these promotion programmes are necessary even if they don't get support from electronics producers.

However, analysts say that producers will have to support retailers in their trade promotion campaigns in August or September. Retailers now need to boost sales to clear big stocks, since they imported products in big quantities earlier this year when sales were satisfactory.

In fact, sales were very good at the beginning of the year, even when prices escalated. However, sales began slowing down in June.

Meanwhile, a lot of producers have plans to market new products in the last months of the year. Therefore, electronics producers will have no other choice than accepting massive price decreases for products in August and September. Analysts have forecast that 32-inch LCD TVs will see their prices decrease to 6-6.5 million dong at that time.
