Rice export turnover gained over US$1.5 billion in five months

The volume of exported rice in May 2009 was 710,000 tonnes worth US$350 million which raised the total volume of exported rice in five months to 3.2 million tonnes worth US$1.51 billion, up 43.15% and 19.69% in terms of volume and value respectively compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

Price of domestic unhusked rice stands at VND 4,100 – 4,300 a kilogram depending on rice’s quality and origin. Rice’s prices are fluctuating around VND 5,100 – 5,630 a kilogram.

Recently, the Ministry is co-ordinating with localities to give guidance on producing the remaining crops this year in order to ensure the volume and quality of rice to meet the requirements of the market and export and to reduce losses.
