GE to produce wind-turbine components in Vietnam

The US Corporation GE Energy began the construction of a manufacturing plant to make components for wind-turbine generators at the Nomura Industrial Zone in the port city of Hai Phong on May 12.

The 61 million USD factory, expected to be in operation by the first quarter of 2010, will produce 10,000 tonnes of components annually to supply GE’s wind-turbine assembly plants all over the world.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, a spokesperson for GE pledged to recruit around 500 local people to work at the factory.

GE Energy, one of the world’s leading suppliers of power generation and energy delivery technologies, has provided the technology for several power generation projects in Vietnam since 1960.
