Deepwater port commissioned in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

SP-PSA International Port, the first deepwater container port of international standard in Vietnam, was officially opened in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s Tan Thanh District Friday.

At the inaugural ceremony, the port on the Cai Mep -Thi Vai River received the 60,000-ton APL Alexandrite, which can carry nearly 4,000 twenty-foot containers and is the largest container ship to dock in Vietnam to date.

Phase one of the port’s construction took two years to complete. When phase two is finished, the port will be able to handle more than two million twenty foot equivalent units (TEU) a year.

The project is a joint venture by Vietnam National Shipping Lines, Saigon Port and PSA Vietnam, a subsidiary of PSA Singapore Terminals.
