Cai Lan port receives biggest-ever container ship

The Cai Lan port in northeastern Quang Ninh province on May 3 received a 40,462-tonne container ship, the biggest of its kind that has docked in the port to date.

The MSC PEGY, which carries the Panama flag, measures 207m in length and 32.24m in width. It is owned by the Mediterranean Shipping Company – the world’s second largest shipping line in terms of container transport capacity.

The Cai Lan International Container Port Co. Ltd has invested 103 million USD in upgrading and expanding the deep-water Cai Lan port with the goal of handling 760,000 TEUS (one TEUS equivalent to one 20-feet container) in 2017.
