Nigeria seeks further investment from Vietnam
Nigeria wishes to boost trade cooperation with Vietnam and the Nigerian government always creates the best possible conditions for investment from Vietnamese businesses, said the Charge d’affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Hanoi, Sani Bako.
The Nigerian Embassy has facilitated the granting of visas for Vietnamese businesses to visit and seek investment and trade opportunities in Nigeria, Mr Bako told a Nigeria-Vietnam trade promotion forum in Hanoi on April 9.
He also stressed that his country wants to further cooperation in the field of agriculture. The Nigerian government has abolished all taxes and charges on rice import to alleviate the national food crisis, which would serve as a big opportunity for Vietnamese rice exporters, Mr Bako said.
Nze Vitalis Eberechukwu Udunenwu, head of a delegation of 35 Nigerian businesses to the forum, suggested establishing a Vietnam-Nigeria business council to link the business communities of the two countries, especially to encourage the private sector to join trade fairs and investment forums.
Addressing the forum, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien described Nigeria as a potential market in Africa and a gateway for Vietnam to penetrate other western and central African countries.
However, Mr Bien said bilateral trade remains incommensurate with the two countries’ potential.
