Low-income families to get chance of new housing
The building of 800 apartments for low-income earners in Hanoi’s Long Bien District started on April 10.
The apartments, in the new Viet Hung precinct 8km north-east of the city centre, will vary from 35 to 60sq.m and will be set aside for young families, families with two children and families with two adult children.
The Hanoi Construction Department will make 500 of the apartments available for lease with the remainder sold by the Hanoi Housing Management and Development Company.
Hanoi’s People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen The Thao said the project was an important start to the city’s plan to stimulate investment, curb economic contraction and guarantee social welfare.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, Construction Minister Nguyen Hong Quan and senior agency officials attended the ground-breaking-ceremony to begin the work.
The project is scheduled to be completed before Oct. 10, 2010 as part of the celebrations for Thang Long-Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary.
