19th Asian Corporate Conference opens in HCM City

The 19th Asian Corporate Conference entitled “Identifying Challenges to Asia, and Vietnam’s New Role” opened in HCM City on April 23 with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, representatives from relevant ministries, international organizations and foreign investors.

In response to foreign investors’ queries regarding Vietnam’s economic situation, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh affirmed that in spite of the global economic crisis, Vietnam’s economy has maintained its growth and continued to develop. The country’s economic growth rate stood at 3.1 percent in the first quarter and is expected to reach 5-5.5 percent by the end of the year. The Vietnamese Government has recently taken many measures to cope with the economic downturn including the effective implementation of stimulus packages. Relevant agencies focused on strengthening trade promotion activities, expanding export markets and rapidly disbursing foreign direct investment (FDI) capital.

At the conference, delegates from many countries discussed the global economic crisis and its impacts on the Asia-Pacific region. They said that Vietnam is a rising star and likely to become a leading country in South East Asia.

The conference will run through until April 24.
