Vietnam resumes catfish exports to Russia

The first shipment of Vietnamese catfish will arrive in Russia on April 29, according to Duong Ngoc Minh, Head of the Executive Board of the Catfish Exports Department.

At a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on April 22, he said 30 enterprises will get licenses to export 20,000 tonnes of aquatic products to Russia under signed contracts.

In the second quarter of 2009, aquatic exports to Russia are expected to reach US$50 million. Vietnam hopes to export 100,000 tonnes and earn US$200 million this year.

Russia plans to increase fish imports to nearly 200,000 tonnes by 2011.
