Vietnam to produce 40 million tonnes of coal this year

The Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has completed a series of negotiations and has signed new contracts to sell its coal in 2009.

Under the contracts, Vinacomin will extract 40 million tonnes of coal including 19.5 million tonnes for domestic consumption and 20.5 million tonnes for export this year. To expand the domestic consumer market, the group will step up its marketing and advertising campaigns to persuade people to sue more coal.

In addition, the group will increase its output of coal from open-cast mines, upgrade its mining technologies and improve productivity in Khe Cham 3, Nam Mau, Ha Lam, and Mong Duong as well as opening a number of new mines.
