Rural energy project continues in the South
The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the World Bank have agreed to continue implementing the second phase of the second Rural Energy project (RE II) in southernmost Ca Mau province.
The RE II second phase, with an estimated total investment of 150 billion VND (8.5 million USD), will be carried out in six remote communes in U Minh, Phu Tan, and Tran Van Thoi districts over the next 30 months.
Once completed in 2011, the project is expected to provide electricity for around 7,600 local households and help increase the number of households in Ca Mau province with access to electricity to 95 percent.
At present, Ca Mau provincial authorities are urgently completing necessary procedures to kick-off the project in May this year.
Ca Mau is one of 26 cities and provinces nationwide that have been selected for the implementation of the RE II project, which aims to provide high-quality electricity services at reasonable prices for rural households, helping boost socio-economic development.
The first phase of the project was implemented in 12 communes in 7 districts with a total investment of 80 billion VND (4.5 million USD), benefiting nearly 31,700 households and helping increase the number of households in the selected areas with access to electricity to 90 percent./.
