Convention centre opens for business
The first phase of the Sai Gon Exhibition &Convention Centre (SECC), built to international standards both in size and facilities, was officialy inaugurated in District 7 on Thursday.
The centre is being built in the Phu My Hung new urban area, with links to downtown HCM City via the Kinh Te, Tan Thuan and Nguyen Tri Phuong bridges; to the Mekong Delta via Nguyen Van Linh Parkway; and to districts 2 and 9 and southeastern provinces by the Phu My Bridge, which is now under construction.
The complex, designed by Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, has four exhibition halls with an area of 10,000 sq. m, and an outdoor exhibition area of 20,000sq.m.
The project also includes two 4-star and 5-star hotels with 1,000 rooms, a 35-storey office building, and an international conference centre able to accommodate 2,000 guests at a time.
The first phase of the project covers 31,300sq.m with a hall covering 10,000sq.m, a conference room for over 500 people, five other small rooms capable of accommodating from 30-200 people, a 500-seat restaurant, a cafeteria that can serve 300 guests at a time, and an outdoor exhibition area of 15,000sq.m.
Construction of the phase 1 has cost US$30 million of the project’s total investment of $300 million.
