No price hikes now, dairy firms promise Saigon Co.op

Saigon Co.op, which runs the country’s biggest supermarket chain Co.opMart, has struck deals with 12 Vietnamese and foreign invested dairy companies not to increase prices of their products at least until May.

The retailer said Friday that Vinamilk, Dumex and Mead Johnson would keep prices steady until May while Dutch Lady Vietnam, Nutifood and Milkmax have promised not to hike prices for the rest of this year.

Abbott, which increased prices 4 percent last week, would also keep its prices stable, Saigon Co.op said.

The distributor of Abbott products, 3A Pharmaceutical Company, said the price hike had been necessary as the dong had dropped by more than 5 percent against the dollar compared to a year earlier.
