Mobifone says sales to rise 39 percent on new users

Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Co., the nation’s second -biggest mobile-phone company by subscribers, expects sales to rise 39 percent this year as the company upgrades its networks and adds users.

Revenue is projected to jump to VND25 trillion (US$1.43 billion), the company, known as MobiFone, said in a statement Friday. It had said on Thursday that revenue climbed to VND18 trillion in 2008 from VND14 trillion a year earlier.

“The coverage and quality of our phone connection will be improved as we are building more signal stations nationwide, which will enable us to gain users,” chief administrator Ho Tuan said. The company had around 22 million users as of December 31, he said.

MobiFone expects to reach 30 million subscribers by the end of the year, according to its website. Vietnam has a population of 86 million.
