International port sends 70 to train in Singapore
SP-PSA International Port, a new joint venture between Saigon Port and Singapore’s PSA, will send 70 of its first employees to Singapore this month for an intensive course in crane operation.
The company said the trainees will learn how to operate Post-Panmax cranes, Vietnam’s biggest and most modern quay cranes, to load and unload containers for vessels with up to 80,000 dead weight ton (DWT) capacity.
After the four-month course, the newly trained crane operators will work at the SP-PSA International Port at the mouth of Cai Mep and Thi Vai rivers in southern Ba RiaVung Tau Province’s Tan Thanh District.
The port’s first stage will be completed ready for operation in May next year.
When fully operational, the port is expected to have an annual capacity of 2.2 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units).
