Vietnam to export more than US$1b worth of electric wires, cables

The Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said electric wires and cables are likely to enter the list of commodities with export revenues of more than US$1 billion this year.

The ministry has planned to raise the export earnings from these products to US$1.4 billion.

The electric wire and cable industry is predicted to maintain an annual growth rate of 30 percent in the 2006-2010 period and to earn more than US$2 billion in revenues in 2010.

More than 90 percent of Vietnam’s electric wires and cables are exported to Japan, the rest to the US, the Republic of Korea and Australia. The potential markets for Vietnam include the US, Germany, France, China and ASEAN countries.

Vietnam now has over 100 enterprises that manufacture and export electric wires and cables.
