Olympus Vietnam Tuesday announced phase one of its Vietnamese factory would begin operations today.
The factory will manufacture digital camera lens and medical devices, including treatment tools and accessories for endoscopies, the company, an affiliate of Japanese Olympus Corporation, said.
After 2010, the company will begin phase two of construction, which will increase the factory’s capacity to 10 million units a year. All products will be exported to the US and Europe.
Olympus Vietnam said it would invest a total of US$43 million in the plant in Sonadezi Long Thanh Industrial Zone in Dong Nai Province.
Olympus Vietnam sent 40 Vietnamese technicians and engineers to China and Japan for training.
The company plans to employ more than 3,000 workers at its factory by the end of 2010, Olympus Vietnam General Director Masami Yazaki said.
