EZ desperate for trained workers
A qualified workforce was essential for the sustainable development of the Dung Quat Economic Zone, especially in the context of globalisation, a seminar on human-resource development was told here yesterday.
The seminar, jointly organised by the Dung Quat EZ’s management board and HCM City Open University, discussed how to increase the quantity and quality of the workforce for one of the most important economic zones in the central region.
According to the board, the demand for workers will increase the from the present 25,000 to 32,000 in 2010, 80,000 in 2015 and to 100,000 in 2020.
However, most of the local labour force has little or no training.
Head of the board, Tran Le Trung, urged the Ministry of Education and Training to restructure training programmes to meet the demand.
He said it was necessary to boost co-operation between the education-training sector and employers to satisfy demand.
Trung also mentioned the possibility of building an International High Tech University in the zone with help from local and foreign universities.
Dung Quat EZ now has 160 projects with total investment capital of US$10.8 billion, including the country’s first oil-refinery plant worth $2.5 billion.
