Workshop discusses ways to increase exports to EU

The Vietnam Fruit Association (Vinafruit) held a workshop on “growing, processing and exporting vegetable and fruit to Europe ” in northern province Tien Giang on September 4-5.

Experts from OSEC/SIPPO, a Swiss organisation, and the Southern Fruit Research Institute (Sofri) analysed Vietnam’s strategies in vegetable and fruit export, promotional measures, and the EU’s regulations in importing the staple, particularly quality examination and origin identification.

Vietnam’s southern region has 460,900ha of vegetable and fruit, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the whole country. Some provinces have invested in developing their specialties.

The region expects to earn 192 million USD from exporting vegetable and fruit in 2010.
